Foreword

Dear Readers,

We are delighted to offer you the new issue of Bilig. Our new issue coinciding to the Nowruz festival has a colorful and fertile content like Nowruz. In this issue, there are 13 valuable articles each of which are from the field of Turkology. We are content to state that these articles are all original works that address the issues that have never been reviewed before, contributing to the field.

As in the previous issues, in this issue of bilig – Journal of Social Sciences of the Turkic World - there are outstanding articles from the main fields of social sciences which arouse interest to the various aspects of Turkish culture and shed light on the current affairs of the Turkish world. At first glance, the articles in history, language, literature, music, communication, international relations and economics draw attention and in addition to this, as you can easily notice while reading, many studies have been dealt with in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach.

The article prepared by two academicians Mehmet Çetin and Recep Kök in the department of Economics and entitled "The Employment of Non-Muslims in the Ottoman Army in the Case of the Crimean War" and in the article titled " Gender in Public Sphere in The Ottoman Empire and Woman with Gender Identity " by Zekeriya Isik and penned by Yahya Yeşilyurt " Piracy in Territorial Waters of Yemen and Measures by The Ottoman Empire " are the remarkable multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies. We believe that these three articles are of significant quality that bring a new perspective to the studies in the field of history.

Prepared together by Amirzh the Rysbayev and Gulzar Temenova regarding the rich Turkish language the article titled " The semantic structure of verbal phraseological units in Kazakh and Turkish languages" is a unique study which reveals accumulation of relevant Kazakh academics’ accumulation relevant to the issue and in which many examples of idioms are compared.

In the article entitled " Modernization and Changing Consumption Culture in Advertisement and Announcements in Dalkavuk, Kalem, Davul, Kartal, Cem And Kara Sinan Magazines " written by Ebru Davulcu, modernization efforts and changes witnessed in consumption culture together with these efforts in Ottoman Empire were reviewed over advertisement and announcements published in western-Style humor magazines

We would like to thank all the academicians that contributed to the bilig – Journal of Social Sciences of the Turkic World - and wish you a happy reading with the hope that our new issue will be of use to the scientific world.
